ICC set to reveal World Cup schedule on June 27
This announcement comes just four months before the event is scheduled to begin unlike previous tournaments, which had schedules announced over a year in advance.
Karachi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to reveal the schedule for the upcoming World Cup in India on June 27.
The latest reports said that the tournament is expected to take place in October and November, but the specific venues and fixtures are yet to be confirmed. One of the reasons for the delay in scheduling was the delayed approval of the draft fixture list by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Unlike previous tournaments, which had schedules announced over a year in advance, this announcement comes just four months before the event is scheduled to begin.
Najam Sethi, former chairman of the PCB management committee, clarified that the approval or disapproval of the World Cup schedule lies with the government, similar to how the Indian government determines the team's travel schedule.
The PCB had also made a request to the ICC to change the venues of their matches against Australia and Afghanistan in order to gain an advantage. They proposed swapping the locations, suggesting that playing Australia in Chennai and Afghanistan in Bengaluru would make Pakistan the favorites in both matches.
However, venue changes during ICC events typically occur only in the case of security threats, so it remains to be seen if the ICC will accommodate the PCB's request.
