Pakistan committed to working with US as partner of peace: Qureshi

Islamabad: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan has played a key role for the Afghan peace process and it remains committed to working with the United States as a partner for peace.

Qureshi expressed it during a telephonic conversation with the newly appointed US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken. Matters related to Afghan peace, bilateral ties and Daniel Pearl murder case were discussed.

The foreign minister also congratulated Secretary Blinken on assuming the charge besides underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to boost ties with the US.

Talking about Daniel Pearl case, he underscored that it is in mutual interest that justice is served through legal means. He said that Sindh has filed a petition against the release of Omar Sheikh in the murder case after consulting with the federal government.

He informed his counterpart that the PTI government’s vision is altogether different from the previous governments as it is determined to bring all the corrupt elements to justice

The US official said that both countries have a range of areas to engage in, besides calling for boosting the bilateral ties.

He acknowledged the sacrifices rendered by the people of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.
