Indian SC suspends Rahul Gandhi's contempt sentence
Gujarat court had sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison in the contempt case in March.
Delhi: The Indian Supreme Court has suspended the contempt sentence against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.
According to Indian media reports, the case of contempt of court against Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, was heard in the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court, without citing any reason for not giving the maximum punishment recommended by the trial court judge, suspended the contempt sentence against Rahul Gandhi.
After the suspension of the sentence, Rahul Gandhi's parliamentary membership will be reinstated, and he will be eligible to participate in the upcoming elections next year.
It is to be noted that the trial court in Gujarat had sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison in the contempt case.
Later, when the Gujarat High Court also upheld Rahul Gandhi's sentence, he challenged the decision in the Supreme Court.
