Islamabad: The upcoming caretaker government is poised to have Former Finance Secretary Waqar Masood as the potential finance minister in its ranks, the sources said on Wednesday.
Citing informed sources, it has been revealed that Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar diligently concluded the consultative phase for the appointment of key members in the interim cabinet.
In a strategic move, the caretaker prime minister opted for a compact cabinet, personally scrutinizing the backgrounds and qualifications of prospective candidates.
Dr. Waqar Masood is being considered for the pivotal role of the caretaker finance minister, according to insider reports. Meanwhile, distinguished industrialist Dr. Gohar Ejaz, recipient of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, is anticipated to lead the commerce and industry ministry.
Senator Sarfaraz Bugti is set to take charge as the caretaker interior minister, contributing to vital governance functions. In addition, deliberations are ongoing for the caretaker information minister slot, with Syed Muhammad Ali and former Balochistan government spokesperson Farah Azeem in consideration.
Further portfolios include Tabish Gohar for the energy ministry and Aneeq Ahmed for the caretaker federal minister for Religious and Interfaith Harmony, showcasing the diversity of expertise represented in the caretaker setup.
Prominent figures such as columnist Almas Haider, Umar Saif, Dr. Amhad Saqib, and former SECP chairman Muhammad Ali Ghuman are expected to join the caretaker federal cabinet, bringing their unique insights to the governance process.
The official swearing-in ceremony is anticipated to take place at the President House on Thursday at 5:00 pm. Interim Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar commenced his responsibilities following his oath of office on August 14.
After assuming his role, the caretaker premier has actively sought comprehensive briefings from various ministries on significant matters. Notably, Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar was chosen as Pakistan's caretaker prime minister, with the endorsement of PM Shehbaz and Riaz, forwarded to President Alvi.
