SELD imposes ban on physical punishment in private schools

Karachi: The Sindh Education and Literacy Department (SELD) has enforced a ban on administering physical punishment to students in private schools.
Authorities have announced that the registration of any school found in violation will be revoked.
Following a series of unsettling events involving physical abuse of students in educational settings, the department has taken action.
The department has placed a ban on the imposition of physical punishment on students within private schools.
Additional Director Rafia Javed has stated that the trend of physical punishment within schools is on the rise and needs to be curbed.
The condition of refraining from physical punishment will now be included in the registration certificates of private schools.
Any school found subjecting students to physical punishment will face appropriate action.
Javed emphasized that numerous complaints have been received from parents regarding the infliction of physical punishment on their children.
To tackle this issue, the registration of schools found violating the ban will be suspended.
Rafia Javed further explained that the Sindh Child Protection Act will enforce this rule across all schools.
As per the law of the Sindh Education Department from 2005, a school's registration can even be revoked for violations.
