Court was tested by confusing constitutional issues: CJP

Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial Monday said that many constitutional cases came before the Supreme Court in February 2023, and the court was examined by confusing constitutional issues.

Addressing the Full Court Reference, CJP Umar Atta Bandyal stated: “As Chief Justice, I am addressing the New Judicial Year ceremony for the last time”.

He added that last year, in this event, the one-year performance of the court was highlighted. In one year, Supreme Court disposed of a record 23,000 cases.

Umar Ata Bandial further said the number of pending cases could be reduced by 2000. The court itself became a victim of tough test and environment many times.

He also added that he does not want to repeat the events that happened but it affected the judicial performance. All the events have formed part of his judgment in the audio leaks case.
