Public transport to resume across Pakistan from May 16
The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) on Saturday has decided to resume public transport across Pakistan from May 16.
In a meeting that chaired by NCOC Chief Asad Umar, it was decided that public transport will be allowed with 50% passengers.
The decision came after the forum expressed satisfaction with the falling Covid-19 trend noted in the last few days.
However, NCOC issued an official notification according to which markets, malls, shops are allowed to open from May 17 till 8pm.
Earlier, the forum agreed to resume transport from Monday.
As per Covid related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), railway officials are directed to allow 70% passengers in trains
The government officials will meet again to overlook the virus situation on May 19.
Moreover, Asad Umar has urged public to keep wearing masks and strictly follow Covid-19 precautionary measures.
The government had imposed a lockdown in the country from May 8 to 16 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus during the Eid holidays.
It urged the nation to stand united and firm to support these steps undertaken for its wellbeing.
Pakistan is presently experiencing the third wave of coronavirus which is said to be deadlier and more contagious than previous two waves.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is recording a gradual decline in new Covid-19 infections and deaths.
According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 1,531 cases of coronavirus were reported while 83 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 19,467.
