ICC World Cup 2023: Pakistan likely to make one change for South Africa match
Fakhar may start for Pakistan in lieu of fellow opener Imam-ul-Haq in the upcoming World Cup encounter.
Islamabad: Pakistan's opening batter Fakhar Zaman is in contention for a place in the playing XI for Green Shirts do or die, World Cup 2023 match against South Africa on Friday.
Pakistan's last option after suffering a shock defeat to Afghanistan is to win each of their final four games and hope for favorable outcomes in other games to advance to the knockout rounds.
Both Fakhar and Mohammad Nawaz were deemed fit enough to play against South Africa on Wednesday, which was fantastic news for the Pakistani team.
“Fakhar has recovered from the knee injury which aggravated during the course of the World Cup. He will now be available for Pakistan’s next match against South Africa in Chennai on Friday. In a must win match, Fakhar could well be seen getting back into action. All however depends on the tour selection committee and depending on the state of pitch which will be there on Friday. Fakhar and Nawaz who have recovered from illness will however be available for selection on the team.
Fakhar is expected to be selected in the team for the pivotal game, "especially after his performance against South Africa last year, where he smashed 193 and helped Pakistan win the series 2-1."

Fakhar had his nets during the extended training session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium Chennai Wednesday where Pakistan were seen going through an extended training session for well over three hours.
“He looks okay during the nets. Now all cricketers including those having any health or injury issue are now fit and available for the match against South Africa,” the official accompanying the team when contacted said.
