Islamabad: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has termed the ceasefire announcement in Gaza as a step forward and hoped that the truce would lead to a permanent resolution of Palestinian issue.

Taking to twitter, FM welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire on behalf of Pakistan and said that the Israel’s occupation of Palestine must end and illegal settlements and apartheid like regime imposed in the occupied territories must be dismantled.

He further said that the implementation of United Nations (UN) resolutions for establishment of independent and contiguous Palestinian State with Al-Quds Al Sharif as its capital is imperative.

“This is the power of collective, unified action; this is the effort of every person and every nation, together for a just cause. May this ceasefire be the 1st step towards peace in Palestine,” Shah Mehmood shared on twitter.

Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting presided over by the President of UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir in New York, FM said that the violence will resurface if the issue keeps simmering.

Muslim Ummah should demonstrate unity and leadership role on the Palestinian issue as people’s sentiments demand from us. We have to find permanent solution and this requires us to forge unity among ourselves and that people want,” he said.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the ceasefire announcement by the Israel is result of diplomatic efforts initiated by the Muslim Ummah.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also held a meeting with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal Bin Farhan al Saud in New York.

The Foreign Minister said that joint declaration issued after the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan reflects identical stance of both countries on Palestinian issue.

He reiterated that Pakistan fully supports the Palestinians' right to self-determination and also demands that the resolutions of United Nations (UN) and Organization of Islamic Council (OIC) must be implemented.
