Maulana Fazl asks ECP to postpone upcoming elections, cites security reasons
Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed regret over the deteriorating situation in the country, highlighting that the JUI-F is currently a target for terrorists.
Peshawar: Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to consider postponing the upcoming elections due to escalating security concerns.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed regret over the deteriorating situation in the country, highlighting that the JUI-F is currently a target for terrorists.
He asserted, “Given the current circumstances, we believe that fair elections cannot be conducted. Therefore, we request the ECP to consider our appeal,”.
The JUI-F head went on to mention that candidates from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have also raised concerns, citing weather conditions and issues related to law and order, which could potentially result in widespread rigging.
He also talked about the topic of the political alliances, saying that the seat adjustments would be made where necessary to strengthen alliances.
Discussing the rejection of candidatures, Maulana Fazl said that it was not exclusive to candidates from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as nominees from other political parties also faced the rejection of their nomination papers.
