Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday unveiled its candidate lineup for the upcoming February 8 general elections in Lahore District.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the PML-N nominated seasoned politician Sheikh Rohail Asghar for the NA-121 constituency.

A significant electoral battle is anticipated in NA-127 as PML-N has chosen former state minister Attaullah Tarar to go head-to-head against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal-Bhutto Zardari.

Other key contenders include PML-N supremo, contesting from NA-130, President Shehbaz Sharif from NA-123, Hamza Shehbaz from NA-118, Maryam Nawaz from NA-119 and NA-159, and Khawaja Saad Rafique from NA-122.

On the provincial assembly front, Shehbaz Sharif is set to contest polls from PP-164 and PP-158, while Hamza and Maryam are nominated for PP-147 and PP-159 constituencies, respectively.

The latest reports suggested internal differences within the PML-N ranks, particularly in NA-143, where the party has yet to finalize its candidate. It is anticipated that if PML-N leaders in Sahiwal are not allocated party tickets, they may choose to contest independently in both national and provincial constituencies.

In NA-143, discontent among local PML-N leaders has surfaced due to seat adjustments with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP). Tufail Jatt, displeased over not securing the party ticket, has opted to run as an independent candidate.

Adding to the political complexity, PML-N’s Qasim Nadeem, Malik Amir, and Mubashir Hasan are set to compete against each other in PP-199. Similarly, Malik Arshad Khan faces a formidable challenge from former Mayor Asad Khan Baloch.

Meanwhile, Ayaz Sadiq, who had expressed interest in the same constituency, has been nominated to contest the election from NA-120 on the PML-N ticket. The electoral landscape in Lahore promises intrigue as these candidates vie for representation in the National and Punjab Assemblies.
