PCB plans to secure top players for PSL 10th edition amid IPL clash
The move comes as the proposed PSL schedule, set for April 7 to May 20, may coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL), potentially causing scheduling conflicts for players
Lahore: In preparation for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is devising a strategy to secure the participation of top-tier players.
The move comes as the proposed PSL schedule, set for April 7 to May 20, may coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL), potentially causing scheduling conflicts for players.
During a recent PSL general council meeting in Lahore, PCB officials and franchise representatives convened to discuss this issue.
To ensure the availability of key players for PSL amidst the IPL season, the PCB intends to preemptively secure the services of select "marquee players."
The sources said that a mutual agreement would be reached between franchises and PSL management to finalize this pool of players, with the number likely to be a multiple of six.
While the exact number of marquee players is yet to be determined, it is anticipated that there will be at least six, possibly up to twelve.
The players would not be directly signed but would instead be included in the player draft under the platinum category, ensuring their availability and selection.
Incentives for these marquee players include a salary cap ranging from $350,000 to $400,000, approximately twice the amount earned by regular platinum players in the PSL.
