Rohri: The unidentified armed men shot and injured journalist while severely torturing his friend in Sindh's city of Rohri.
According to the report, Haider Mastoi—a journalist working as a reporter in district Khairpur—and his friend Khan Muhammad Patafi were passing by on a motorcycle when armed men on motorcycles stopped them and opened fire on the journalist.
His friend said that the journalist was hit with four bullets in his right leg and hand, who, with the help of local residents, first shifted the injured Haider Mastoi to Sukkur Civil Hospital and then to a private hospital.
The local police stated they cordoned off the area where the incident was reported and started searching for the attackers. Rohri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Faraz Mailto visited the hospital and recorded the journalist's statement.
Journalist Haider told his colleagues at the hospital that the attackers did not try to snatch anything from him or his friend, they just aimed at him and ran away.
On Thursday, the Sukkur Union of Journalists protested against the failure of the police to arrest the killers of journalist Haider Mastoi and the killers of slain journalists Jan Mohammad Mehr and Nasrullah Gadani.
It is pertinent to note that on May 24, journalist Gadani, who was injured in firing by unknown persons in Tehsil Mirpur Mathilo of Ghotki district of Sindh province, died during treatment in Karachi.
The murder case of journalist Nasrullah was registered on the eighth day of the attack, but the police could not arrest the accused.
Notably, the 35-year-old reporter was associated with the Sindh language newspaper for the past several years and was very active on social media regarding public issues.
In his videos and news, he openly raised his voice against the problems faced by the people in Sindh, including the oppression of the people by the feudal system.
