Relaxation in sentences will not be applied to prisoners involved in murder, espionage, and anti-state activities


Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari granted a 90-day relaxation in the sentences of prisoners on the occasion of Independence Day.
President of the State approved the reduction of the sentences under Article-45 of the Constitution. The relaxation in the sentences will not be applied to the prisoners involved in murder, espionage, and anti-state activities.
The reduction in punishment will not be applied to criminals convicted of adultery, theft, robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, financial crimes, and criminals who harm the national treasury.
The reduction in sentence will not apply to those convicted under the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Narcotics Control (Amendment) Act, 2022. While it will apply to male prisoners above 65 years of age who have served one-third of their imprisonment.
This exemption will also be applied to those women prisoners over 60 years of age who have served one-third of their imprisonment and to the women prisoners with children.
The sentence reduction will also apply to persons under 18 years of age who have served one-third of their sentence.
