Lahore: Punjab Wildlife Department on Sunday recovered a rare eagle from the possession of bird’s smugglers in Taunsa.
Wildlife department team recovered eagle, worth of $36,000 during an operation on the tip of locals and also arrested the suspects involved in its trafficking.
The rare eagle was physically healthy and fit for release, officials said.
The accused is believed to be part of a larger network involved in the illegal smuggling of rare birds abroad.
On the successful operation, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb extended congratulations to the Wildlife Department on behalf of the Chief Minister of Punjab, praising their commitment to protecting endangered species.
Punjab Wildlife department announced that the recovered eagle will be fitted with a tracker before being re-released into its natural habitat, ensuring that it can be monitored in the wild.
