Barbie sales surge to record $1.35bn billion amid pandemic

According to details, the coronavirus pandemic has greatly benefitted the toy industry, as people kept looking for other forms of entertainment while being locked at homes.

For parents who had to entertain kids, toys are the only suitable option.

Hence, the sale of Barbie rose to an average of 16% across the world, helping to lift toymaker Mattel to its best sales year.

The surge in demand even strained supply chains earlier in the year as the toy industry as a whole benefited from increased demand related to Covid-19.

Chief executive of Hot Wheels, Ynon Kreiz said that the firm was ultimately able to meet the extraordinary increase in demand for its products.
