Lata Mangeshkar contracts COVID-19; admitted to ICU
The legendary singer is currently undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital.
Mumbai: The Indian nightingale, singer Lata Mangeshkar has been admitted to the hospital after contracting novel coronavirus Tuesday (January 11).
The legendary singer is currently undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital.
The news was confirmed by singers’ niece Rachna.
She has mild symptoms and due to her old age health issues, she has been shifted to the ICU, said Rehana.
The 92-year-old singer, was earlier admitted to the hospital in November 2019 after she complained of breathing problems.
Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with several acclaimed award including Dadasaheb Phalke Award and France's highest civilian award. She became a recipient of India's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna in 2001.
Besides numerous national and international awards, she crowned officer of the Legion of Honour as well.
In 1974, the Guinness Book of Records ranked her as the most recorded artiste in the history.
Lata had reportedly sung over 25,000 songs between 1948 and 1974.
