Pakistan records highest single-day COVID spike since Sept. 2021

Islamabad: As the fifth wave of COVID-19 intensifies in Pakistan, the country reported over 2,000 coronavirus cases for the first time since 2020.

Pakistan reported 2,074 new coronavirus infections, a new daily record, with authorities linking the spike with the Omicron variant of virus.  

Covid figures have risen to record levels yet again – 2,074 new daily cases – while there’s been another rise in the number of patients admitted to hospital.  

According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 2,074 persons were tested positive while 13 died in the past 24 hours— taking Pakistan's COVID death toll to 28,987.   

The total number of cases has reached 1,309,248.     

As many as 1,259,699 patients have recovered from the disease.

Punjab

The number of patients swelled to 448,924 in the province with 13,083 causalities.

Sindh

The number of infections has surged to 490,010 in the province, while the death toll has reached 7,691.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The confirmed cases have surged to 181,842 in the province with 5,945 casualties.

Balochistan

There are 33,664 confirmed cases while 367 patients have died from the infection so far.

AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan

There are 34,715 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 748. On the other hand, there are 10,433 cases in GB with 186 coronavirus deaths.

Islamabad

There are 109,660 cases in the capital city while 967 people have lost their lives.
