World Hijab Day is being observed on Tuesday (today)—highlighting the significance of Hijab and ensure protection of Muslim women’s right to wear a head scarf.
A virtual conference titled “Salam from around the world” will be conducted today via Facebook live in connection with the Day.
Women from different walks of life globally, who opt to wear Hijab, will participate in the webinar to share their motivational journeys.
The day is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013, taking place on 1 February each year in 140 countries worldwide.
In 2017 New York State recognized World Hijab Day, and an event marking the day was hosted at the House of Commons, which was attended by Theresa May (former UK Prime Minister).
However, the House of Representatives of the Philippines approved 1 February as "annual national hijab day" to promote an understanding of the Muslim tradition in 2021.
