Islamabad: Opposition has demanded immediate resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan and fresh elections in the country following the victory of Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani on the general seat of the Senate from the federal capital.

According to details, former President Asif Ali Zardari contacted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Head of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Maulana Fazlur Rehman and extended gratitude towards both leaders for ensuring victory of Yousuf Raza Gillani in senate polls.
Sources revealed that Maulana told Zardari that Gillani was the joint and unanimous candidate of opposition and his win is the victory of PDM.
Zardari said that opposition, with the right strategy, has defeated the most powerful government candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government. He added that the selection of Chairman Senate would be done after consultations with allies.
Nawaz Sharif said that even the members of PTI are fed-up of the incumbent government.
Fazlur Rehman assured both leaders that Imran Khan will be removed from power soon with opposition’s strong alliance.
The three leaders also discussed future strategy of PDM along with preparations of Long March.
Yesterday, in the most highlighted and awaited contest of Senate elections, former Prime Minister and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) joint candidate Yousuf Raza Gillani thumped PTI candidate Abdul Hafeez Sheikh. Gillani registered his victory from an Islamabad’s General seat.
The victory of opposition came as major blow for PTI, after which Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to take a vote of confidence from Parliament.
