SHC rejects Vawda’s plea seeking to restrain ECP from hearing disqualification case
Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday rejected a petition filed by Water Resources Minister Faisal Vawda seeking to restrain the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from hearing a disqualification case against him.

According to details, a two-member bench of SHC issued notices to the top electoral body, the federal government and other respondents to respond to Vawda’s plea by March 16.
The court has also directed concerned authorities to submit Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict in disqualification case against the federal minister.
Faisal Vawda has challenged the February 24 decision of ECP stating that the electoral body turned down his plea against the facts of the matter.
The counsel of a petitioner argued that federal minister provided false information to in the affidavit he submitted to ECP before the 2018 elections.
He added that Vawda was an American national at that time but he lied in the affidavit and held the US citizenship even when his nomination papers were being scrutinized.
The ECP is hearing three complaints over dual nationality of Faisal Vawda.
Earlier, the IHC in its verdict declared that it could not disqualify Faisal Vawda after his resignation from the National Assembly seat.
The court, however, directed the electoral body to take decision over the matter of submission of an allegedly false affidavit by the minister along with his nomination papers for the July 2018 elections.
