Revolutionary poet Habib Jalib being remembered
He was also awarded Nishan-i-Imtiaz and Nigar Awards


Lahore: The revolutionary poet Habib Jalib is being remembered on his 29th death anniversary today.
Jalib gave the shape of verses to what he felt and saw. He raised the word of truth before the dictator and cruel rulers of his time. Whatever Habib Jalib wrote with his courageous pen on cruelty and injustice became popular among the people. His simple and attractive style touched the hearts of people and he remained loyal to his progressive school of thought despite being jailed several times but also remained resilient when it comes to his poetry.
Habib Jalib was born on March 24, 1928, in Hoshiarpur of Indian Punjab. Jalib was entitled as the poet of the people by his followers. He migrated to Pakistan after the partition and worked with a newspaper as a proofreader. His famous poetry books are Sir-e-Maqtal, Zikr Behte Khoon Ka, Gumbad-e-Bedar, Kulyaat e Habib Jalib, Is Shehar-e-Kharabi Main, Goshay Main Qafas K, Harf-e-Haqq, Harf-e-Sar-e-Daar, and Ehad-e-Sitam.
The greatest poet of his era Habib Jalib died on March 12, 1993. He was also awarded Nishan-i-Imtiaz and Nigar Awards by the government of Pakistan for his services for literature.
Urdu poet Qateel Shifai wrote on the death of Habib Jalib: Apney saarey dard bhula kar auron ke dukh sehta tha Hum jub ghazlain kehtey thay wo aksar jail main rehta tha Aakhir chala hee gya wo rooth kar hum farzanoun se Wo deewana jisko zamana Jalib Jalib kehta tha.
