Asad Qaiser trampled Pakistan’s ‘rule of law’, said Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif Friday stated that country’s law has been crumpled today in National Assembly (NA) session, accusing Asad Qaisar of conspiring with Imran Khan Niazi to first not convene the session in stipulated time and then adjourn the session when it was convened.
While addressing a to media outside the assembly, Shehbaz Sharif said, the Speaker had trampled on the laws and traditions of Parliament like a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker.
Lashing out at Asad Qaiser, the opposition leader said, “As per constitution, the speaker was bound to convene a meeting on the no-confidence motion within 14 days, nevertheless, he conspired with Imran Niazi”.
“He (Asad Qaiser), thus, violated Article VI of country’s constitution,” PML-N leader alleged.
“The requisition of no-trust motion was submitted on March 8,” former Punjab Chief Minister said.
He further added that, he stood up to talk, but NA speaker didn't even bother to listen, ignored him and walked away.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto said Imran Khan is running away, instead of fighting.
“What kind of captain he (Imran Khan) is, as he ran away, leaving pitch behind” Bilawal asked.
Referring to session’s adjournment, on the grounds of death of a parliamentarian Fauzia Wahab, PPP leader said, “In June 2012 members had to vote for the Prime Minister, we offered Fateha and then fulfilled the constitutional responsibility”.
"All opposition parties are united and we will not let the Imran Khan escape," he added
Other leaders from smaller parties too severely criticised both the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the house for avoiding the motion and using delaying tactics.
The oppositions’ backlash came after the National Assembly left entire agenda unaddressed due to demise of a PTI MNA from Hangu, Khayal Zaman, and was adjourned to meet again on March 28, 2022 (Monday) at 04:00 pm.
At the outset, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Noorul Haq Qadri offered Fateha for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) deceased MNA and those killed in recent acts of terrorism in the country.
The chair in his remarks said it is the parliamentary tradition to adjourn the house after Fateha on the first day of session held after the death of a member. He said this is done to honor the late member of the National Assembly.
On the no confidence motion, the chair said he will act in accordance with the constitution. Later the session was adjourned to meet again on Monday at 04:00pm.
Today's session started at 11 am, with Speaker Asad Qaiser in the chair.
