Sydney: The wreckage of a helicopter carrying five people has been found after it crashed in rugged terrain near Melbourne.
Reportedly, crash site has been discovered in dense bushland after police spent hours searching for a helicopter that went missing in regional Victoria this morning.
Five people—a pilot and four passengers—were believed to be on board the missing helicopter and it is unclear if anyone survived the crash.
According to Victoria Police, the missing chopper was travelling in a convoy with another helicopter when it disappeared at around 9.30am Australian Eastern Standard Time (11.30pm GMT).
It is understood two helicopters were travelling in a convoy from Melbourne’s CBD when one disappeared around Mount Disappointment just after 9.30am, with the second chopper yet to be located.
The helicopters were operated by a private charter company.
It is not yet known what went wrong, with the situation being described by authorities as an aviation incident.
