Gujrat: The recent wave of coronavirus has alarmed the Gujrat district administration along the citizens.

According to the details, Gujrat’s District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ)— Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital Corona ward has been flooded with the COVID-19 patients. Keeping in view the current inflow, the relevant authorities has set-up an additional field hospital.

Further, Smart lockdown in one village of the district was enforced while two schools in locality were also sealed by the local administration.

The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has also announced closure of educational institutions in Gujrat for two weeks from March 15.

The Corona ward of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital in Gujrat district had a capacity of 60 beds whereas the number of patients here has reached 75 while the number of active cases has crossed 2,500.

“Many citizens in the vicinity are still unwilling to take Corona seriously,” said a health officer.

Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Saif Anwar Cheema said as Gujrat citizens frequently travel abroad and for the purpose coronavirus test is mandatory for travel. After the test, COVID is diagnosed among the masses. While, he advised citizens to be more careful while taking care of SOPs.

So far, 80 people, including doctors have succumbed in Gujrat due to COVID-19. It is feared that if Corona SOPs are not strictly adhered in the third wave, the number of affected patients may surge.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has reported 53 coronavirus deaths and 2,258 new positive cases in last 24 hours.

According to National Command and Control Centre (NCOC), around 2,258 cases of coronavirus were reported while 53 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 13,377.

The total number of confirmed cases reached to 597,497.

As many as 566,493 patients have recovered from the disease with 1,688 critical cases.

Punjab

The number of coronavirus patients has reached 180,944 with 5,662 causalities.

Sindh

The number of infection has surged to 260,406 in the province, whereas the province has reported 4,448 deaths.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The confirmed cases have reached 74,722 while the death toll has surged to 2,129 in KPK.

Balochistan

There are 19,157 confirmed cases while 202 patients died of the infection so far.

AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan

There are 10,730 coronavirus cases in AJK while the death toll has reached 316. On the other hand, there are 4,959 cases in GB with 104 deaths.

Islamabad

There are 46,579 cases in the capital city while 516 people have lost their lives.
