COVID: Pakistan logs 78 infections, one death
As many as 1,493,662 patients have recovered from the disease.
Islamabad: Pakistan on Monday morning reported one death from Covid-19, despite a recent rise in cases linked to the Omicron variant.
According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 78 persons were tested positive while one death was reported in the past 24 hours. Pakistan's COVID death toll remained at 30,364.
Pakistan imposed new restrictions to curb the fast-spreading Omicron variant, hence, the positivity rate now stands at 0.66%. While the cumulative tally of the country has now climbed to 1,527,326.
As many as 1,493,662 patients have recovered from the disease.
March 23 was the first day without any recorded deaths in Pakistan since the pandemic took hold in 2020. Official death figures are typically lower at weekends and holidays because of a lag in reporting.
Punjab
The number of patients swelled to 505,528 in the province with 13,558 causalities.
Sindh
The number of infections has surged to 576,469 in the province, while the death toll has reached 8,097.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The confirmed cases have surged to 219,308 in the province with 6,322 casualties.
Balochistan
There are 35,481 confirmed cases while 378 patients have died from the infection so far.
AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
There are 43,303 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 792. On the other hand, there are 11,722 cases in GB with 191 coronavirus deaths.
Islamabad
There are 135,141 cases in the capital city while 1,023 people have lost their lives.
