Power tariff likely to increase by Rs4.5 per unit
If approved, the hike would put an additional burden of Rs59.45 billion on the consumers.
Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is likely to increase the price of electricity by Rs4.05 per unit, GNN reported.
According to details, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had sent the application to Nepra, seeking Rs4.05 unit hike in electricity price in the context of April’s monthly fuel adjustment.
The final decision regarding price hike would be taken by the authority after hearing, which is scheduled to be heard on May 31.
If approved, the hike would put an additional burden of Rs59.45 billion on the consumers.
The hike will be applied to all consumers of the different distribution companies (DISCOs) except lifeline and K Electric consumers.
In April, more than 13.55 billion units of electricity was generated at a cost of Rs. 10.66 per unit. The reference cost for April was fixed at Rs 6.60 per unit.
In the meantime, with the delay in the revival of the IMF programme and falling foreign currency reserves, the PKR has hit an all-time low against the US Dollar—crippling the Pakistan’s economy further.
