According to details, Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar has been appointed as Air Chief in place of Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar who is retiring after completing his tenure.

The Prime Minister office said that Air Marshal will be promoted to the rank of Air Chief Marshal.

On the recommendation of the Prime Minister, the President has appointed Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar as the new Air Chief.

He is the son of renowned religious scholar Hakeem Ghulam Muhammad and hails from Gujarat.

According to the report, he is the third services chief from Gujrat.  Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar was commissioned in April 1986 in the GDP branch of the Pakistan Air Force. During his career, he commanded the Fighter Squadron, Operational Air Base and Regional Air Command. He served at the Air Headquarters as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations Research and Development), Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Training Officers) and Director General of Projects.

In addition, Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar had also served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.

Earlier, Admiral Muhammad Sharif and General Raheel Sharif from Gujarat also served as service chiefs.

Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan was conferred Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Civil) for his outstanding professional services by President Arif Ali in a ceremony held in Aiwan e Sadar on Wednesday.
