Zardari meets Shujaat to seek support for Punjab CM election
A re-election for the Punjab CM will take place on July 22 with Hamza Shehbaz and Pervez Elahi the main contenders
Lahore: After the success of PTI in the Punjab by-elections, the polital temperature has increased as mainstream parties are now making last ditch efforts to grab the Punjab chief minister's slot.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari reached the residence of Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain on Tuesday to seek support for the incumbant CM Hamza Shehbaz.
PML-Q has 10 members in the Punjab Assembly, while Shujaat Hussain is also a part of the coalition government at the centre.
A re-election for the Punjab CM will take place on July 22 with Hamza Shehbaz and Pervez Elahi the major contenders.
After victory in the by-elections, PTI has now 178 members, while its ally PML-Q has 10 members, the two parties have a total of 188 members.
On the other hand, after winning four seats, the MPAs of PML-N have increased to 168 and have been supported by PPP's 7, Rah-e-Haq party one and three independent members.
An independent candidate has recently won in the by-election held on July 17, while MPA Chaudhry Nisar is still inactive in the voting process.
After two more PML-N MPAs resigned, as many seats are still vacant in the House of 371 members.
Meawnhile, Zardari made a sign of victory while leaving the venue.
