‘Elvis’ actress and singer Shonka Dukureh found dead in her apartment; cops say 'no foul play involved'


Famous American actress and singer Shonka Dukureh has been found dead in the bedroom of her apartment in Nashville, with cops confirming that there was no foul play involved. She was 44.
As per reports, Shonka Dukureh was found unresponsive by one of her children, who then rushed to a neighbour for help.
Born in North Carolina, Shonka Dukureh starred as blues singer Big Mama Thornton in the film Elvis.
No foul play is suspected and an autopsy is yet to be carried out to establish the cause of death, said police.
The actress, who shared the stage at Coachella this year with Doja Cat, graduated with a bachelor's degree in theatre. She went on to achieve a master's degree in education at Trevecca Nazarene University.
Dukureh starred alongside Austin Butler as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker in the 2022 film.
Also known for her musical talents, Dukureh has performed and recorded with artists like Nick Cave, Mike Farris, Pete Rock, Smoke Dza and Bahamas.
