Nepra petitioned to raise the power rate: Decision on August 31

Islamabad: The National Electricity and Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is likely to raise the power tariff by Rs4.69 per unit.
According to details, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed its petition in Nepra seeking Rs4.69 per unit increase in the power rate.
The increase has been sought in the monthly fuel adjustment for the month of July.
If the raise is granted by the Nepra, the electricity consumers will have to bear an extra burden of Rs65 billion.
The Nepra will hear the CPPA petition on August 31.
The CPPA said that 35.17% electricity was produced from hydro sources; 12.74% from coal; 1.46% from diesel, 10.36% from local gas; 14.98% from imported LNG; 14.20% from atomic energy; and 6.42% electricity was generated from furnace oil in the month of July.
It further stated that the cost of electricity produced by diesel remained Rs27.88 per unit; from furnace oil Rs35.69 per unit; from LNG Rs28.28 per unit; and from atomic energy the production cost was Re1 per unit.
The CPPA further stated in its petition that the reference cost was fixed at Rs6.28 per unit for the month of July. But the production cost of electricity generation remained Rs10.98 per unit.
It said that a total 18.76 billion units of electricity was produced during last month.
