According to details, police fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators staging protest against Indian PM, who is in Bangladesh to attend its Golden Jubilee celebrations of independence and the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founder and father of present premier Sheikh Hasina.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside Dhaka’s Baitul Mokarram mosque after the Friday prayers following which violent clashes broke out between the protestors and police.

The protesters have accused Modi of inciting religious tensions and encouraging anti-Muslim violence in the Indian state of Gujarat in 2002, which left about 1,000 people dead. Modi was serving as Gujarat's chief minister at the time of the deadly religious riot.

Meanwhile, several people are said to be injured as a police official in Chittagong confirmed that more than 40 people were admitted to a hospital in the city with gunshot wounds, out of which four succumbed to their injuries.
