Babar Azam becomes 2nd fastest batter to score 8,000 runs in T20 matches
Babar achieved the special feat in 218 innings, while Kohli reached the 8K run milestone in 243 appearances.
Karachi: Babar Azam has added another accolade after a historic run-chase against England at the National Stadium Karachi on Thursday, breaking Virat Kohli’s record to become the second fastest batter to reach the 8,000-run mark in T20 matches.
Babar Azam scored his second T20I century, cruising his team to a 10-wicket win over England in the second T20I of a seven-match series. The 27-year-old right-handed batter remained unbeaten on 110 runs from 66 balls, with 11 fours and five sixes in his innings.
With his record-breaking innings in the second T20I of the seven-match series, Babar broke numerous batting records, one of which was surpassing Indian batter Virat Kohli’s feat of scoring the second fastest 8,000 runs in the shortest format of the game.
Babar is now the second-fastest batter to smash 8,000 runs in T20s. He achieved the special feat in 218 innings, while Kohli reached the 8K run milestone in 243 appearances. The record for scoring the fastest 8K runs in T20s belongs to legendary West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle. The Universe Boss took 213 innings to reach the 8,000-run milestone.
