Lahore: Punjab government has banned all types of public transport in Lahore.

According to the notification issued by Lahore Transport Company, all types of public transport in the Lahore been banned till further orders. The ban applies to buses, coasters, taxis, rickshaws, wagons including Changchi rickshaw.

‘The number of COVID-19 cases is on the increase in Punjab, the positivity rate in the city of Lahore is constantly rising and the third wave is looming, which poses a series and imminent threat to public health,’ read the notification.
Reference to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, Government of the Punjab Order No. SO(G)/P&SHD/4-1/2021 Dated 29 March 2021, To take mandatory safety measures for the prevention and control of this disease in the Province of Punjab, All type of intracity public transport including Orange Line Train & Metro Bus Service shall remain closed within Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sheikhupura.
In the continuation of the notification issued yesterday, “All type of public transport in Lahore city shall remain closed till further order,” said the notification.
Directions to close all vehicle operations activities immediately have been issued by the authorities otherwise stern action allowed to take against the violators.
Earlier, the Punjab government banned wedding ceremonies, including both indoor and outdoor, from April 1.
According to the notification issued on March 29, wearing masks will be mandatory in all districts of the province.
Intra-city public transport in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sialkot, Sheikhupura and Gujrat will remain closed whereas rail service will also run with 70% capacity.
As per the notification, 50% of the staff in all government and private offices will be allowed however all cinemas and shrines will also remain closed.
According To the Department of Primary and Secondary Health, restaurants, wedding halls and playgrounds will remain closed.
The notification further said that the district administration and the police would work together to ensure the implementation of the Corona SOPs.
