Islamabad: National Assembly standing committee for Law and Justice approves bill for holding Senate election by open ballot.

National Assembly standing committee for Law and Justice which met under the chairmanship of MNA Riaz Fityana approved the bill, while voting for the bill, six members supported the motion whereas three opposition members voted against the motion. Disagreement with the proposed bill came from the three members of Pakistan People Party (PPP). Parliamentarians belonging to Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMLN) could not attend the meeting.
It has been suggested that since Senate polls could not be held through show of hand because every voter has to show his preference in the ballot paper. Therefore, to certify open identity of the voter, the voter should be asked to mention his/her name on the back side of the ballot paper.
