According to the United Nations (UN), the aim to observe the day is to remind governments of all states of their responsibilities under international agreements to raise public awareness of the importance of solidarity and to encourage new initiatives for poverty eradication.
The theme of International Human Solidarity Day remains unchanged every year. It promotes cultural equality and social justice for bringing human and social development, specifically in developing countries.
In December 2005, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared solidarity as one of the most important pillar of human relations and dedicated December 20 as International Human Solidarity Day.
