The company on its official twitter handle has shared a statement that it has started rolling out the new biometric feature for users.

“Today we’re starting to roll out a new security feature for WhatsApp Web and Desktop: face and fingerprint unlock when linking devices,” wrote company.

The new feature ensures that people using other versions of the app which allows users to access WhatsApp from their computer, by connecting directly to the phone must have to use their face or finger to unlock it.

“WhatsApp does not see your face or fingerprint data. Chats for your eyes only,” WhatsApp added.

Earlier, WhatsApp has faced widespread criticism by users over its revised privacy policy as on January 04, it announced that it will be updating its privacy policy, saying it reserved the right to share some user data across its other units such as Messenger and Instagram.

Later, WhatsApp clarified on its new privacy policy saying the update does not affect privacy of messages with friends or family, and also listed information "not shared with Facebook".
