Netflix starts password-sharing crackdown
Netflix has stated that additional fees will be charged to password-sharing users in four countries including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.

California: The streaming giant Netflix launched a global crackdown against sharing of passwords among users. The news follows a leak describing password restrictions that came out earlier this month, prompting subscriber complaints.
According to the details, Netflix has stated that additional fees will be charged to password-sharing users in four countries including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.
The streaming service had been saying for months that a worldwide crackdown on users sharing Netflix account passwords would begin in the first quarter of 2023.
The company, in this regard, has issued an official notification stating: “Crackdown called 'Extra Member Sub Account Fee' has been started in 4 countries”.
It is pertinent to mention here that Netflix took several measures since last year in Latin American countries, charging extra fees for using accounts outside the residence or primary location.
In the coming weeks, the crackdown will expand to different countries.
It is still unclear when will the company start cracking down in other countries. However, the platform stated that at the end of January 2023, the company will prevent different people from using the same account.
Following this, people not living in the same location will not be able to use that account to watch streaming content in other places. It will still be possible to share a Netflix account, but within a household.
According to the company’s statement devices should be connected to the location's Wi-Fi, for this purpose the company will ask users to connect to the primary location's Wi-Fi.
Users must sign in to Netflix from their devices at the primary location at least once a month, after which the company will not block access to the platform on the device.
An individual who attempts to log into the account from an unrelated device at a different location will be denied access to the Service.
If a user wants to sign in to Netflix on a new device outside the home, a new mechanism will be introduced for this purpose.
Such users will be requested to provide a temporary code from the company to sign in, which will allow them to access the account while being away from home for seven days.
