The Cat and Mouse game that never gets old as it's been 83 years since American animated series 'Tom & Jerry’ hit our TV screens in 1940 and thus began the saga of the cat and mouse chase. 

The short film series is one of the most-watched cartoons by many generations.  

Tom and Jerry—created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera under Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGW). 

Since their first appearance in 1940, the duo has been entertaining audiences with their mischievous antics, and their popularity only continues to grow. 

The cartoon series centers on the rivalry between the titular characters of cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry. 

Tom and Jerry's timeless tale of a cat trying to catch a mouse, and the mouse always outsmarting the cat, has become a staple of American animation. 

The characters have been adapted into comic books, feature films, video games, and more. It's safe to say that the pair has become an institution in the world of cartoons.

The cartoons became the highest-grossing animated short film series in the 60s, beating 'Looney Tunes'.  

Tom and Jerry show has been an inherent part of our childhood and the cat and mouse chase masters continue to delight us even today. 

As fans are celebrating Tom and Jerry’s 83rd birthday, here are some fun facts about the show. 

Many of ‘Tom and Jerry’ show lovers did not know that the orcharacters’ original names were Jasper (for cat) and Jinx (for mouse). 

The first episode was titled ‘Puss gets the boot’ and is the longest-ever episode. 

In recent years, the franchise has seen a resurgence, with new feature films and television shows being released. The latest film, Tom & Jerry, was released in 2021 and became a box-office success, grossing over $200 million worldwide.
