Grease prequel series brings back the Pink Ladies for new adventures
The show stars Marisa Davila as “Brainy” Jane, a character similar to Sandra Dee, who sees her good-girl image ruined by a malicious rumor.
London: Paramount+ recently premiered a new prequel series called Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies. The show follows the Pink Ladies, a group of high school outsiders who had established themselves four years before Sandy enrolled at Rydell High.
The series is packed with teen friendships, romance, and fantastic dance numbers.
The show stars Marisa Davila as “Brainy” Jane, a character similar to Sandra Dee, who sees her good-girl image ruined by a malicious rumor. She is fed up with the school's social hierarchy and forms an alliance with other outcasts, including Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), a brainy romantic who has been labeled the school slut; Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso), a tomboy who dreams of becoming a T-Bird; and Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara), who prefers fashion to the dating scene.
The first season of Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies comprises ten episodes, with the first two available for streaming online from April 6. Every Thursday, new episodes are released, and the finale airs on June 1. For a limited time, viewers can watch the first episode on YouTube for free.
To watch the series, viewers must have a subscription to Paramount+. The Essential plan costs $5 per month and features minimal ads, while the Premium subscription costs $10 monthly and has no ads (except for select shows and live TV). Both plans grant access to a vast library of tens of thousands of episodes and movies owned by ViacomCBS, including Emmy-nominated series such as RuPaul's Drag Race and The Amazing Race, original content like Rabbit Hole and the Yellowstone prequel 1883, the entire Star Trek franchise, Paramount feature films such as Django Unchained and Scream, and other BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and Smithsonian channel content.
In addition to fewer ads, Paramount+ Premium subscribers can watch their local CBS station live, CBS sports events (including March Madness, Champions League, and NFL games), stream on up to three devices, create profiles for family members, and download select content for offline viewing.
New subscribers can enjoy a seven-day free trial of Paramount+ or watch Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies on the streamer's Amazon Prime Video channel, which also offers a one-week free trial.
For those who want to relive the original film featuring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, they can stream Grease online for free with a Paramount+ subscription or rent or purchase it from Prime Video, Google Play, iTunes, Redbox, or Vudu.
Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies is a must-watch for fans of the original film and anyone who loves teen dramas with catchy music. With its exceptional cast, compelling plot, and nostalgic feel, this prequel series is sure to be a hit. So grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy classic tunes while rooting for the underdogs.
