He got the largest mandate in the history of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Kashmir: Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq was unopposed elected as the 15th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir who got 48 votes in the House of 52, after which he got the largest mandate in the history of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

According to details, Anwar got 29 votes from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), 12 votes from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and 17 members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) votes.

The four votes he could not manage to get were of the absent members of the assembly who include Hassan Ibrahim, Sardar Ateeq Ahmed, Shahida Sagheer and Ali Shaan.

The urgent session of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held between Wednesday and Thursday night, time was given for submission of nomination papers from 12:40 am to 12:55 am.

According to the Secretary of the Assembly, no one's nomination papers were submitted by the government, after which Speaker Anwar ul Haq was elected as the Prime Minister unopposed, but even after the unopposed election, the voting process was conducted.

Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq belongs to Bhimbar District of Azad Kashmir, he was first elected Member of Assembly in 2006.

Anwar has been the Speaker of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly twice.

It is pertinent to note that Azad Kashmir High Court had sentenced the former Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas for contempt of court till the dismissal of the court and disqualified him from holding any public office.
