Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Umer Ata Bandial, on Sunday granted his approval for the revised Special Judicial Allowance (SJA) to be implemented for the employees of the Supreme Court, according to a recent report.
Effective from May 1, 2023, the approved SJA will be equivalent to one initial basic pay of the Pay Scales of 2022, benefiting the SC workers falling under the BPS-1-22 category.
The decision was made in accordance with the notification issued on February 7, 2023, and in compliance with the Finance Division's (Expenditure Wing) O.M.No.F.1(5)R.12/81 dated November 24, 1993, along with Rule 4 of the Supreme Court Establishment Service Rules, 2015.
The Chief Justice exercised his powers to unfreeze the Special Judicial Allowance, which was previously equivalent to one initial basic pay of the Pay Scales of 2017 for the employees (BPS 1-22) of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The statement released by the SC Deputy Registrar (Admin) on May 31, 2023, confirmed the approval and stated that the revised Special Judicial Allowance will now be drawn by the apex court employees, matching one initial basic pay of the Pay Scales of 2022, commencing from May 1, 2023.
It further noted that the employees will continue to receive the revised allowance, equivalent to three initial basic pays of the Pay Scales of 2022, until further notice. The court will allocate the necessary funds from the existing budget grant.
The notification concluded by mentioning that the approval was granted by the Chief Justice of Pakistan himself.
