PMD has issued an alert to Karachi as cyclone nears, authorities have imposed Section 144 and prohibited public visits to the beach.

Karachi: As the threat of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) “Biparjoy” looms, authorities have imposed Section 144, prohibiting public access to Karachi’s beaches.
The Section is imposed as the cyclone intensifies over the east-central Arabian Sea, prompting concerns for public safety.
In an official notification, the Karachi Commissioner’s office announced the ban on fishing, sailing, swimming, and bathing at the beaches from June 11 until the storm subsides.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning to all relevant authorities, urging them to remain vigilant during the forecasted period.
As per the report, the cyclone resides near Latitude 15.5°N and Longitude 66.3°E, approximately 1,040 kilometers south of Karachi.
Violation of the beach closure orders will result in legal consequences, with authorization to take action in coordination with the police.
PMD reports that the cyclone sustains maximum surface winds of 120 to 130 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 150 kilometers per hour near its center.
Favorable environmental conditions, including high sea surface temperatures and low wind shear, contribute to its potential for further intensification.
