The company has been in the works for a little while, but now Facebook has made it official, with the announcement of a range of new audio social options across its apps.

Mark Zuckerberg in an interview on Discord with Casey Newton said Facebook was exploring live audio rooms.

“Audio as a medium just allows for longer-form discussions and exploring ideas,” he added.

He further stated that people can get into topics that frankly are a lot harder to with other mediums.

While expressing confidence Facebook CEO stated, “Every once in a while a new medium comes along that can be adopted into a lot of different areas and I think that’s going to be true with these live audio rooms.”

As part of the announcements, Zuckerberg also revealed that Facebook is working with ‘Spotify’ to make sharing content easier for musicians and listeners.

Meanwhile, Facebook is also launching a new tool called 'Soundbites', which will enable users to create short-form audio clips using a range of effects and tools.

The pre-launched features closely resemble those of Clubhouse.

The plans to launch new audio products and features is the latest move of social media giant to take on its competitors including Clubhouse.

Clubhouse is basically an audio app that has grown substantially since its launch a year ago. The platform is like an audio-only conference and allows users to tune into audio rooms to listen to speeches, talks and conversations.

Micro-blogging website Twitter is also testing its live audio feature ‘Spaces’.
