Rawalpindi: A father of two lost his life over a mere loan of Rs. 13,000. Residing in Rawalpindi, Masood took a loan of Rs. 13,000 through a social media app to pay for his children's fees and house rent.

However, a week later, the online company started harassing him by increasing the amount with interest up to Rs. 50,000.

Unable to repay the loan with interest, he borrowed an additional loan of Rs. 22,000 from another app, which eventually escalated to Rs. 700,000 with increasing interest over a few weeks.

The lenders continuously threatened Masood with dire consequences, causing distress to the point where he hanged himself using a ceiling fan.

In his final message left for his wife, he stated, "I have given money to many people, with interest. My life has become unbearable." He further added, "Neither am I worthy of you nor our children."

Before committing suicide, Masood instructed his wife, "Keep my mobile phone switched off, at least for a month."

The wife of Masood revealed that the loan app representatives would call daily, threatening them with police action and "data leaks." They even warned that if the amount was not paid by midnight, it would double.

In a video message, Masood stated that he had borrowed loans through online loan apps to cover household expenses. In return, the company's representatives would send "blackmail" messages.

Masood's brother mentioned that even after his brother's suicide, the loan app representatives continued to harass them.

A report has been filed at the Race Course police station, and an investigation is underway.
