Punjab suspends classes for Matric, Intermediate

Lahore: The government on Sunday notified the suspension of in-person learning for grades 9-12 in fifteen districts of Punjab including Lahore in view of third wave of coronavirus.

The Provincial Minister of Punjab for School Education Murad Raas turned to twitter and shared the official notification to suspend all classes of matric and intermediate in the districts with over five per cent coronavirus positivity rate until further orders, starting from April 26.

“All Public & Private Schools will be closed immediately in the Districts stated below in the Notification till further notice,” the caption read.

“Classes 9,10,11,12 will also be closed in these Districts starting Monday 26, 2021,” he added.

According to details, the districts where schools will remain closed include Lahore, Bahawalpur, Bukhar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Jhang, Khanewal, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Okara and Toba Tek Singh.

The educational institutions had resumed for those grades last Monday, while the classes for grades 1-8 remained suspended due to the surge in novel coronavirus.

The students attended classes in staggered manner for four days only.
