Pakistan's annual inflation rate reaches 29% and sets a record.


Islamabad: The inflation rate in the country continues to rise, with a 0.33% increase reported last week, and an annual inflation rate reaching a record high of 29%.
According to the statistics department, prices of 21 essential commodities increased last week, while 11 essential items witnessed a decrease in prices.
During the past week, the price of sugar rose to 1,800 rupees per kilogram. A 20-kilogram bag of flour remained priced at 3,200 rupees. However, LP gas and tomatoes experienced a decrease in prices.
The statistics department's report reveals that sugar became expensive, reaching 6.89 rupees per kilogram, with an average price ranging from 135 to 139 rupees. However, in various cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar, it was sold for as high as 150 rupees.
A bag of 20 kilograms of wheat reached a price of 116.28 rupees, and the price of potatoes fluctuated between 2,650 and 3,200 rupees. Eggs became costlier, with a price of 3.29 rupees each. The price range recorded was from 230 to 280 rupees per dozen.
On the other hand, tomatoes remained relatively cheaper at 5 rupees per kilogram, while onion prices decreased by 3 rupees and settled between 61 and 64 rupees. Live broiler chicken witnessed a slight decrease in price and was sold for 446 rupees.
The report also highlights a reduction in the price of LPG, with a decrease of 37 rupees per kilogram, resulting in an average price of 2,484 rupees for domestic cylinders.
