PM approves modernization of TDAP to promote exports

ISLAMABAD -- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the modernization of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to promote Pakistan's exports, enhance access of its products to international markets and align local industries, including small and medium enterprises, with export standards.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister noted that access to international markets for locally manufactured products is crucial for increasing exports, and a modernized TDAP will help facilitate this process.

He said a complete ecosystem for agricultural exports, including the entire value chain, would be developed.

The Prime Minister directed that well-trained human resource should be inducted into TDAP through a transparent and merit-based process. He said reforms are only possible when career progression within institutions is linked to the achievement of targets and performance.

He also directed that the services of a reputable private audit firm be hired to conduct the performance and financial audit of the Authority.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan has vast export potential and an advantageous geographical location. He said the government is facilitating industries and small and medium enterprises to increase exports and fully capitalize on these strengths.

The meeting was also presented with a set of reforms to transform TDAP into a modern and internationally benchmarked trade promotion organization.

A twelve-month phased plan, comprising approval, design, implementation and independent evaluation, was also presented for the implementation of the proposed reforms.

The Prime Minister directed that the reforms be completed and their implementation ensured by the middle of next year.
