Punjab imposes ban on drone use during Muharram processions

Lahore: The caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday imposed a complete ban on drone coverage on the 9 and 10 of Muharram.

The ban was imposed to prevent any potential security risks and maintain order during the religious events.

The interim Chief Minister of Punjab presided over an important conference on law and order that was called to ensure public order and protect people during religious observances, according to the details.

The meeting's main topic of discussion was assessing the security plan, with a focus on Ashura Day, when sizable processions and congregations are anticipated.

In view of recent security concerns, extra focus was given during the conference to guaranteeing the protection of foreign nationals, notably Chinese nationals.

It was agreed that joint flag marches between the Army, Rangers, and police forces would strengthen security measures by displaying a show of force and thwarting any potential threats.

All Commissioners and RPOs were instructed by interim Chief Minister Punjab to make advance preparations for processions and gatherings, considering the risk of rain that would impact the arrangements.

The discussion emphasized the application of a formulated code of behavior to maintain order and safety during Muharram in keeping with the promotion of religious harmony and maintaining peace. Mosques, Imambargahs, and other places of worship were singled out as needing the most protection.

Participants at the discussion acknowledged the crucial role elected officials and members of peace committees play in promoting harmony and understanding among various communities.

The performance of District JITs (Joint Investigation Teams) on incidents that happened on May 9 was also subject to thorough scrutiny by Commissioners and RPOs, displaying a commitment to addressing prior issues and ensuring accountability.
