National Assembly to be dissolved on August 9: Khursheed Shah

Karachi: Federal Minister for Water Resources Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah on Sunday stated that assemblies will be dissolved on August 9.

The PPP leader stated that on August 9—the same day as the dissolution of the National Assembly—the assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan would also be dissolved.

Khursheed stated that three months after the National Assembly has been dissolved, general elections will be held in the nation. He was speaking to the media in Karachi.

In relation to the creation of a caretaker administration, Khursheed Shah disclosed that five candidates, including politicians, had been shortlisted for the post of caretaker prime minister.

Last week, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has been nominated by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) as caretaker prime minister.

According to Muslim League (N) sources, discussions on the caretaker prime minister are ongoing, and the PPP and other parties were given the go-ahead regarding the choice of Ishaq Dar.

The senior leadership meetings of the PPP and PML-N could result in agreement on Ishaq Dar's nomination, and a meeting of both parties' advisory committees is soon to be scheduled.

A committee led by former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and included of federal ministers Khurshid Shah and Naveed Qamar has been constituted by the PPP to offer advice on the caretaker government issue.

According to sources, Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the PML-N, and Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the PPP, met to discuss the appointment of a finance minister.

Additionally, according to PML-N sources, discussions will continue in order to settle on a nominee for the caretaker prime minister.
